If =
you love=20
folk, rock, blues, prog rock, or anything=20
in-between, get yourself a ticket to one =
of the=20
shows in Jethro Tull=E2=80=99s current =
=E2=80=9CAccoustic Tull=E2=80=9D=20
tour - you won=E2=80=99t be =
disappointed.
I was=20
fortunate to attend their show at =
Leicester's De=20
Montfort Hall. Everything about the show =
was=20
polished and professional: the sound was =
crystal=20
clear; lighting was spectacular and =
memorable;=20
performances were passionate and=20
powerful.
Prior to the show, the =
stage was=20
lit by purple light, and a black curtain =
at the=20
back of the stage was lit by red and white =
psychedelic patterns which swirled and =
circled=20
around as if they had minds of their=20
own.
Every light=20
went out, a harmonica started playing; the =
three=20
thousand-or-so-
strong audience whipped =
themselves into a frenzy; a spotlight cut =
through=20
the air, and there was Ian Anderson, =
playing his=20
heart out to thunderous =
applause.
What=20
followed was the best show I have ever =
seen: Great=20
showmanship and stand-up comedy, as =
always, from=20
Ian Anderson; plus classic music from =
Tull=E2=80=99s=20
entire musical history.
The set =
was varied=20
and interesting: folk-esque songs (Thick =
As A=20
Brick). politically incorrect =
humour/commentary=20
(Fat Man), even up-beat, trance-like =
instrumentals=20
like Anna Phoebe=E2=80=99s Gypsy. In =
total, a good 2+=20
hours of riveting live music, plus a =
memorable=20
encore. What more could anyone =
want?
This=20
was a highly entertaining show, put on by =
people=20
who really cared about the quality of =
event they=20
were staging. I really can=E2=80=99t rate =
this show/tour=20
any more highly.
As great as the =
entire=20
show was, though, - as polished as the =
staging,=20
lighting, sound quality, musicianship and=20
showmanship were - one person=E2=80=99s =
sound and presence=20
at times stole the show: Anna =
Phoebe -=20
the amazing young violinist. Her playing =
was=20
forceful and moving. I'm sure =
we=E2=80=99ll be hearing a=20
lot more from in the future.
My =
advice?=20
Buy yourself a ticket to any show on this =
tour.=20
The tickets are worth every penny - and if =
the=20
show you go to is anything like the one I =
went to=20
in Leicester, I=E2=80=99m sure =
you=E2=80=99ll have a seriously=20
good night out.
